Lack of Multimedia software

One of the main reasons why RISC OS was replaced in schools by Microsoft Windows was the lack of multimedia software and unfortunately, more than a decade on... we still have the same problem.

The RISC OS educational market is more or less dead with only a handful of schools and colleges still using RISC OS and the majority of RISC OS users are now at home although home users also wish to watch movies, listen to music etc. on their RISC OS computer but we are currently have a lack of software to do so.

Without multimedia and other types of software such as Internet browsers, modern games etc. RISC OS doesn't have a hope to survive. Can't someone with coding experience port a free open source media player to RISC OS? What ever happened to Cineroma?

RISC OS... on a bus... in France?

RISC OS 3.7 has been spotted running on a pseudo-TV system inside a bus in Valence, France!

This is a very positif sign that there are LOTS more users of our beloved operating system out there but don't neccesarily know that RISC OS development is still continuing but they use the system for the qualities that we all love.

The RISC OS scene may not be as dead as you imagine and that somewhere, sometime, someone'll pick up their old RISC OS computer or even get a new one and stick to it until the end with people such as Paul Vigay who will never abandon this great system!

Backstabbing in the community

Hmmm, the first RISC OS ramble and hopefully not the last =)

A big problem with the RISC OS community is not just lack of software and a proper laptop is the amount of backstabbing and arguing on forums, IRC channels and mailing lists.

My inbox quickly fills up with many mailing list e-mails with petty and childish arguments that can be avoided.

RISC OS seriously needs new people and they all get driven away by the amount of backstabbing in the community, what also bothers me is that the time some people spend in arguing with people could be used to learn new programming skills or develop new RISC OS software but yet they still choose to make some people feel down.

The RISC OS community is known by users of other platforms as a friendly community that will go out of their way to help others and when they actually check out the community for themselves they will get a big shock!

Please can people keep their opinions to themselves and do something for the good of the system.
